"Explore the heart of a kampong"
Like many kampongs, rivers are Janda Baik's lifeblood, providing food and water for its residents from the very first orang asli (indigenous) settlers, water for agriculture, and now valuable tourism and recreational revenues.
Many Janda Baik residents are now dependent on tourism for their livelihoods. The more tourists come to enjoy the rivers here, the more clout they as a community will have to fight conflicting pressures, and preserve the health and beauty of Janda Baik's rivers. So come and enjoy our kampongs and our rivers, and help us to preserve an idyllic way of life!
The Janda Baik Discovery Walk is a short but lovely walk through the heart of this community. It is best enjoyed with a copy of your Janda Baik Top 30 Attractions! guidebook by Helen Gray, which details the route. This gorgeous guidebook can be purchased from many establishments around the kampung.
Starting with taking-in the vistas at Cherengin Hills hotel, you can decide on what you want to explore, as the walk passes Masjid Sultan Abu Bakar, Black Pearl ATV, 101 Resort, Pulau Santap, Sungai Benus, eateries, SWAT, FIG Farm Malaysia and various chalets in between.
Soak-in the kampong atmosphere, observe kampong life around you, and make the time to examine the many tropical plants and flowers along the way.
An evening walk has the reward of a golden sunset, while Saturday evening walks will encounter the "pasar malam", a night market Malaysians never resist!
